Web browser software

There are a number of different web browsers available. Due to rising concern over the standards-compliance, security, and usability of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which is currently integrated with Microsoft Windows, alternate browsers are gaining in popularity. Note that a browser based upon a core browser is generally susceptible to the same problems as the core browser itself. Most modern browsers are based directly (code) or indirectly (general appearance) upon NCSA Mosaic, the first web browser.

Note that this is merely intended to be a representative list, not a complete list. The two browsers most commonly recommended as of this writing are Firefox and Opera.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is currently the most-used browser, if only because it comes with Microsoft Windows. There are a number of browsers available which are based upon IE, but all have the same security issues and the same eroding compliance with standards.

Mozilla

Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org) was created to take the place of Netscape Navigator, which was the most popular browser in the Microsoft Windows world before Microsoft began bundling Internet Explorer.
